Bimblebox Nature Refuge – Installation in the Landscape

During the residencies at the Bimblebox Nature Refuge in 2012 and 2013 I lived, worked and sourced materials wholly within the landscape.  It was a tremendous experience to embed myself into this place to work and breathe in rhythm with its rich, dynamic ecosystems.

Both years  I worked with native grasses, cutting and stitching them to make sculptural forms.  Through the process of making I sculpted  these forms into newly born entities that shared the ancient DNA of the landscape they had grown from. They were at once of the landscape, but also now mobile within and without that landscape. These entities could travel, and they did. But first I wanted to place them within their home.
