Fecund,
Untitled 1, 2, 3, 4
Drawn over a paper ground of carved woodblock printed with layered drawing inks, are swelling and swollen seed pods. The drawings viscerally explore the experience of carrying the potential of new life. The seed pod forms appear either integrated into or separating from the ambiguous printed background. These swelling seed pods are at times embedded and languishing, with some discomfort, or attempting separation and independence. Words from past letters are scrawled across the bottom of the drawing, harking back to a simpler time.
These drawings were completed during a year when I experienced pregnancy, a miscarriage and a second pregnancy.

Loss was created after I experienced the miscarriage of my first child.
Hospital emergency. Ultrasound. Botched cannula. blood loss. Hospital admission. Same ward as the Mothers with their newborns. Overnight Pethidine induced spectral nightmares. Then surgery. And emptiness.
